Phys. Ed. and Health Standards

P.E. Standards:

SHAPE  America's National Standards & Grade-Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education define what a student should know and be able to do as result of a highly-effective physical education program. States and local school districts across the country use the National Standards to develop or revise existing standards, frameworks and curricula.

The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.

The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

Health Standards:

The National Health Education Standards

PreK-12 were released in Spring 2007 and provide a revision of the 1995 standards. Revisions in the new standards include:

  • Revised student standards – from 7 to 8 standards
  • Revision of recommended grade levels for student evaluation
  • Revised and expanded student performance indicators
  • New chapter on student assessment
  • New chapter on equity and access for all students

Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention to enhance health.
